Hauling all our luggage – why is there so much? — is a challenge. As so often happens in situations like this, seemingly out of nowhere, a man appears before us. In a perfect British accent: “Good afternoon. Can I help you with that?” The next few minutes are spent exchanging the typical information that foreigners in strange countries who would only see each other for a few moments, exchange with each other. It’s lighthearted and slightly exaggerated. Hardly a ripple on the consciousness.
It takes a while to find the hotel, it being somewhat further than the map had suggested. Our room number is 2211. A ridiculous number for such a small place, I think.
Our next stop is the hotel restaurant for something to eat. The menu is an exercise in courageous decision making.
The following day is hotter. I drop an ice-cream. Splat.
